| Majesco lessens losses
With the casual gaming trend on the rise, few publishers have embraced the sector as wholeheartedly as Majesco Entertainment. After withdrawing from the premium-game-publishing market in 2006, Majesco shifted its focus to budget and handheld games, where it has found success with titles like Cake Mania and Cooking Mama. That approach has significantly reshaped Majesco, as evidenced by this week's release of the company's financial results for its fourth quarter and full fiscal year, which ended on October 31, 2007. While Majesco's annual revenues were down nearly 24 percent to $51 million from $66.7 million, the publisher's net losses lessened 11 percent to $4.8 million from $5.4 million. For the fourth quarter on its own, revenues were down 45 percent to $11.9 million from the year before, but net losses were cut by 66 percent to $961,000.
A heads-up on what's happening at Dayton Intermediate School
So much has been happening at Dayton Intermediate School, that it's time to catch up on what's been and what's coming. DIS hosts Math Night at 6 p.m. Thursday in the multipurpose room. Parents and students are encouraged to attend to learn about various aspects of math instruction used at the school and how to integrate learning at home. Hands-on learning creates fun and positive experiences for both parents and their children. According to teacher Carol Goodfellow, who is spearheading the evening, there will be a "quick general session, then four breakout sessions." Parents can choose three sessions, each about 20 minutes long. Topics for the evening include "integrating math into daily life" which explores how to review math skills using shopping, cooking and family games; how to use technology at home to assist your child's learning; and how teachers use technology at school to "en-hance the learning experience." DIS staff will describe a day in the life of a math student, including how teachers decide what to teach and materials used to get the most out of the learning.

Picks Videogames: From Sea to Shining Sea
Since its release more than a year ago, the Nintendo Wii has excelled at selling games based on real-life activities. Rather than focusing on the lives of wizards or outer-space warriors, popular games for the Wii find players cooking, bowling and sprinting, thanks to the Wii's motion-sensing remote. One of its newest titles, Endless Ocean, takes the Wii into fresh territory, allowing players to experience diving without any worries about the bends. And although the deep isn't quite as infinite as the title suggests, there's still plenty to explore. Mission: Possible The game follows your character as he or she makes a career as a diver. You answer email for your "missions" -- such as taking photos of different fish or exploring new parts of fictional Manoa Lai Sea. Completing missions adds features such as new equipment, but you're perfectly free to explore the entire sea at your leisure.
